Your Guide to the Top Festive Fairs in London this November / December
The winter months are with us again, and here at Smart City’s Central London serviced apartments, we’re looking forward to welcoming guests for a whole season of yuletide fun.
From top entertainment, traditional Christmas markets, and family-friendly attractions, London’s numerous festive fairs really do offer something for everyone, whether it’s the chance to bag a unique gift as part of a London Christmas shopping trip, or simply taking the kids along to meet Father Christmas.
Below, the Smart City Apartments team offer up our pick of the capital’s top festive fairs taking place this November and December, all within reach from our luxury serviced apartments in London Bridge, Covent Garden, and other prime, city-centre locations.
Christmas in Leicester Square guide
Leicester Square, Central London (Friday, November 11th 2016 to Sunday, January 8th 2017)
New for 2016, London’s latest Christmas extravaganza is less than ten minutes’ walk from our Covent Garden serviced apartments, and easily reached via any of our other locations by catching the tube to either Leicester Square or Piccadilly Circus stations.
On arrival, you’ll find a Santa’s grotto, a delightful Christmas market, and a large, traditional wooden venue playing host to a variety of seasonal shows, including the world renowned La Soirée circus.
Southbank Centre Winter Festival
Southbank Centre, Belvedere Rd, SE1 8XX (Friday, November 11th 2016 to Wednesday, January 25th 2017)
A firm favourite with regular guests at our London Bridge serviced apartments, the annual Winter Festival combines the Southbank Centre’s trademark dedication to celebrating the best in music, culture, and entertainment with a decidedly festive feel.
Among a packed program of events running throughout the winter months you’ll find NoFit State circus performing breathtaking stunts and daredevil feats as part of their new show, Bianco, whilst the hit musical Million Dollar Quartet is a must for fans of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Jerry Lee Lewis.
The show, fresh from a stint in the West End, recalls the time the three rock ‘n’ roll icons got together with Carl Perkins for an impromptu jam session, and runs regularly throughout the winter festival.
Christmas markets, family-friendly activities and a roller rink will also be on hand from November until late January.
The Southbank Centre is less than a 30 minute walk from our London Bridge serviced apartments, and accessible from our other Central London locations by catching the tube to Waterloo.

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland
Hyde Park, Kensington, W2 4RU (Friday, November 18th 2016 to Monday, January 2nd 2017)
The Hyde Park Winter Wonderland may be the one festive fair furthest away from our Central London serviced apartments, but we could hardly start today’s list with anything else.
This is, after all, the big one; several acres of seasonal attractions and entertainment, all set among the glorious surroundings of Kensington’s illustrious Hyde Park.
Now celebrating its tenth anniversary, highlights of this year’s event include a jaw-dropping performance from Cirque Berserk, and, for the younger ones, Sooty’s Christmas Show, featuring everyone’s favourite silent hand puppet and his buddies, Sweep the Dog, and Soo the Panda.
The ice rink which has long been a staple of Hyde Park’s yuletide offering will be making a return, as will the one-of-a-kind Magical Ice Kingdom, where you’ll have a unique opportunity to undertake a spellbinding Arctic Adventure, resplendent with icebergs, enormous ice beasts, and real snow.
A must for the whole family, entry to Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland is free, with prices charged for individual attractions and performances.

Tate Modern Christmas Market
Tate Modern, Bankside, SE1 9TG (Saturday, November 19th – Friday, December 23rd)
One of our favourite festive fairs in London, the Tate Modern Christmas market has been a staple of the capital’s yuletide calendar for the past three years.
With a charming Victorian theme, traditional fairground rides for children, and a wealth of stalls selling everything from artisan crafts and handmade Christmas decorations to delicious food and drinks, the Tate Modern Christmas market is well worth adding to your itinerary for your next winter city break in London.
The Tate Modern can be reached via tube (disembark at Blackfriars), or via the Thames boat service.
